Well, what can I say... bizzy, bizzy, bizzy. But hey - life does get busy!
Summer is well on the wane. The mornings are crisp, and we are harvesting the last of the tomatoes and cucumbers. The lettuce has long since called it a day, and I am grudgingly back at the grocers buying my greens. We have 10 litres of salsa and 6 litres of sweet pickles in the cellar. The crab apples that we can reach have been picked, and the others continue to drop on our heads at their leisure. They "thunk" onto the deck through the night and interrupt sleep.
I love Autumn. It is truly my most cherished time of year. I am fortunate enough to live in a region where the seasons change, marking the passage of time in grand gestures. Autumn is a time to let go, reflect, and prepare to begin anew.
I have quite a few projects ready to be put to bed. I need to finish my shawl (yes still a WIP) and I have a few more knitted mittens to complete for a charity group. My sewing machine (remember Sally - my pawnshop rescue?) is ready for pickup after a major tuneup. I need to take a class on how she works, as this is an electronic machine, and my current machine is a rotary hand control model.
I am also thinking of joining a walking group to train for the Hypothermic Half Marathon Walk which takes place in February 2010. I have hesitated in signing up because of the idea of training in the cold - throughout the winter, really isn't that appealing. I don't like being cold. However, historically funds raised for the Hypothermic Half Marathon have gone to the Inn From the Cold program. In my city, over 3,000 people are homeless. Over 25% have problems with mental health. Perhaps my cold weather walks will keep me mindful and grateful that I walk for pleasure. I walk for my health. I have a home, and food, and clothing. I have family. I have so very many things to be grateful for. These are all good things.
... and so I guess I need to find some long underwear.
Hmmmm .... could I knit that?
