Yesterday, Alberto Contador won his second yellow jersey at the 2009 Tour de France. Yours truly finished her first Tour de Fleece, finishing in the lantern rouge group
- which apparently has some mystique of it's own. I certainly didn't meet
the lofty goals I had set in terms of stash reduction (quantity,
quantity) but in terms of quality (my technique goal) I am very
pleased with myself.
I had said my goal was to spin a worsted yarn, and not lose focus by heading down my "wild and woolen" technique ways. I did stay the course.
My finished product is an 84 gram skein, 2 ply fingering weight, 17 WPI, and approximately 264 yards in length. I did take the time to make a spinning card with both a singles and plied sample attached. With this attached to my wheel, I stopped and sampled along the way, made wheel adjustments as needed and continued to spin with the pack through the flats, over the hills, the mountains. I must admit, it was a good guide, because I never would have plied as much as I did - as my instincts told me I was plying too much. However, when I finally skeined my yarn, it was much more balanced than I had anticipated. After properly setting the twist (wet finish and a gentle fulling) it was indeed balanced!
So... yea me!
